St. Mary’s Foundation
On the Isle of Mljet, located in the heart of the Croatian National park Mljet, is the Isle of St. Mary, a property of Diocese of Dubrovnik. The complex of Benedictine abbey and XII century church represent one of the most valuable monuments of Roman Catholic culture in Croatia .
Throughout history, various nations, which existed in this region, fought for and reigned the island. All these transitions and events caused numerous damages and devastations. In addition, the time has taken its toll, which is the biggest threat to the complex. All these warnings were a call for the renewal, restoration and preservation of the cultural heritage of the Isle of St. Mary. As a result, in order to achieve this aim, based on advices and contributions from many experts and benevolent people, in 2002 was established The St. Mary’s Foundation.
